5 INTERIOR TRENDS I LOVE

Ok... so I have been working on my apartment FOREVER and I'm sure you all are thinking that I will never be finished (because that is what I am thinking) but hopefully I will get my butt in gear soon and have some pictures up. I just finished my curtains and I'll hopefully have a tutorial on that this week. In the meantime I want to share with you some interior design trends that I am absolutely obsessing about: 

1. WHITE KITCHENS

Sometimes its hard for me to pinpoint my interior style, but Pinterest is slowly helping me find it. I have absolutely fallen in love with white, which is the color that's been taking over interior design lately. White is my best friend because I'm an Aquarius and my mind changes more often then I change my clothes. White allows you to change up my colored accent pieces, without having to repaint cabinets, and walls, and furniture. And my favorite all white room? The kitchen! One time at Ikea Spencer told me he didn't really like white cabinets and I about filed a divorce and threw up at the same time. Although he probably doesn't even remember that, it still haunts me to this day. Sorry honey! Here are some beauties to stare at:

2. STATEMENT LIGHT FIXTURES

For all you fashionistas out there, a light fixture is like the jewelry to your outfit; it's just not complete without something amazing. Spray painted chandeliers have been all the rage with DIY bloggers lately because they not only add amazing design, but they add a pop of bold color as well. As all of you know I loath the dreaded boob light that you see everywhere and mentioned it in an earlier post. If I find the person who invented that, there will be hell to pay.  

3. THE FIDDLE LEAF FERN 

House plants use to be seen as "old lady" decor. But if you ask any interior designer, greenery is detrimental in overall design, whether it be a simple succulent, or a tiny tree. Recently the Fiddle Leaf Fern has become the prom queen of the house plant design world. They are gorgeous, make a huge statement, and are hard to kill {just my kind of plant}.

4. OUTDOOR ROOMS

Gardening is becoming a lost art and people are beginning to forget that the outside of their home is just as important as the inside. Seriously though I think all my neighbors have let their lawn turn yellow. Yikes! Nothing makes me happier than sitting outside in the summer and just being. Just sitting still with a cold glass of lemonade and not stressing about anything or anyone. For those of us who don't have lawns, but are lucky enough to have a balcony, it's still possible to obtain that oasis that makes us feel so connected to the great outdoors. There are 16 apartments in my complex and our apartment is the only one that is decorated {shake my head}. 

5. METAL

Metal is one of my favorite ways to incorporate different textures to a room. Recently I painted some L brackets gold, and glued them onto the corners of a boring Ikea shelving unit to give it some pizazz {pictures of that to come soon}. I'm hoping to do a post of my least favorite design trends soon {don't worry I have a giant list} so watch for that as well. Spencer and I are going to the Utah Valley Parade of Homes again this week and I am peeing my pants with excitement. I think this is what truly made me fall in love with interior/exterior designs of homes. I've been going with my parents since I was about 16. MY BABY IS MARRIED

This past weekend I made the long drive to California to see one of my best friends get married. To start off the trip on a heart pounding note, my fellow friend and bridesmaid, Aubrey and I left late Wednesday and headed to Vegas so that we wouldn't have to make the drive all in one day. About 45 minutes into our drive on the highway, going about 80 miles an hour {which was the speed limit in our defence} two deers jumped out into the road. It startled us because it was so dark we didn't see them until they had already passed the car, and if we had been any closer to them we probably wouldn't have enough time to react. While our hearts were busy racing, a third deer jumped out into the road and sprinted across the street and... I kid you not... it was about 5 inches from the car! Seriously I wouldn't have been surprised if the tufts of it's tail were caught in the bumper. Needless to say after we expressed some profanities, we felt as if we had just drank five Redbulls from all the adrenaline we were feeling. We were very luck, in that if the deer had taken off 5 seconds later, {at the speed we were going} we probably would have had a dead deer in our windshield, a totalled car, and would probably had to make a trip to the hospital. Geez, the things you do for a friends wedding day!

And between making banners, running errands, and making sure the brides hairdresser didn't eff it up, I managed to squeeze in some beach and shopping.

MY DIY TO-DO LIST THIS WEEKEND

I'm sooooooo looking froward to this long weekend. I have so many projects that need attending to, and I haven't showed many of them yet because I hate showing things half finished. Here is part of my to-do list this weekend: 

^Finishing up sewing our drapes. Hopefully I'll do a tutorial on this soon!

 ^I'm almost done with our balcony and can't wait to share the details! I'll be working mostly on my seat cover and pillows for this crate bench I made.

Going to be planting some herbs in this homemade pallet planter on Monday with my Mum.

^Doing some more work with the rug I'm making.

^Start on the second nail art piece that will be accompanying this one on our wall. Hopefully I'll give directions on this soon as well!

^ Finish spraying this once black and white chair and reupholster the seat with some fun white chevron fabric. 

And remember when I bought these chairs back in September! Ya me neither! HA! But they have been sitting at my parents house and the weather finally has been warm enough to paint them. Hopefully my parents are bringing them up on Monday and then I can staple on the new fabric and glue the trim on. Yay! 

Seriously guys I can't wait to do a tour of my house but it's going to be w few more months. Haha. I'm one of those people who wants to have EVERYTHING done before the reveal but maybe I will do it one by one as each room is done. 

Well Spence and I are hopefully off to Seven Peaks water park this weekend (where we first fell in love back when we were 16. So precious). Hope everyone has a good Memorial Day weekend and doesn't have to work!

ST GEEZY

I've been on a little blogging hiatus, since I was in St. George over the weekend and have been sick ever since I got back. Man, I didn't realize you could catch a cold in the summer but I guess you can. If anyone wants to bring me tissues and a Dr. Pepper I wont complain. My sister Amelia (in the yellow shirt above) was getting a condo in St. George for the weekend since her husband and oldest son were going to be canyoneering nearby all weekend. Me and my sister Emilee (red shirt) decided to tag along.  

 On day one we went to an airplane museum and a dinosaur museum. The airplane museum was free and looked as if we had been their only visitors in 5 years. It was hosted by a bunch of retired Air-Force grandpas who were more than excited to have some little kids running around.

 ^^ Of course no St. George trip is complete without a Swig run. This little girl discovered her love for ice. And I discovered my love for Mango Puree Mountain Dew. Seriously people next time you are at Swig get one! Even if you don't like Mnt. Dew, it doesn't taste like it and you won't regret it. 

 ^^My good Friend Mary Beth came along for the trip because her boyfriend lives down south. Lucky for my he worked every night so in the evenings I got this pretty lady to myself. 

^^Another great thing about the trip was that Mary and I got to see our good friend Carly. The three of us were inseparable when we were little and then sadly Carly moved to St. George when we were in elementary but we always kept in touch. Speaking of Carly... she really needs to update her blog. ;) 

^^ St George has a lot of great consignment stores and although we didn't get to make it to many, we did make it to the DI (Utah's version of Good Will) there and had great success. I meant to take pictures of the stuff I bought but for now the only one I have is this dress. Everything else I got was home decor items. 

^^ And one of my favorite moments of the trip is when Mary came to pick me up from the DI and we got in the car, only to realize that the iPod was missing and the windows were rolled down. Mary panicked as she thought someone had stolen it but then when we looked in the back seat we saw a baby car seat. Needless to say we dashed out of that car as fast as possible and laughed our heads off. What are the odds that an identical car with its doors unlocked was parked right next to us. And of course about 10 seconds later the owner of the car walked out. I don't think she saw us getting out of the car, but i'm pretty sure she saw us take this picture. haha.  

The rest of the trip was filled with driving, hot tubbing, and reminiscing. And for your further enjoyment, my nephew {who has a speech impediment} was nice enough to serenade us. Please excuse Siri giving us directions in the background.
